Love the character design you've got going on there and the fire does look a ton like hair which I think is a really cool touch. Could work as a cool player or NPC in a game or something, now that I think about it the fire reminds me a bit of something from Guacamelee, which is a good thing

I see what you mean with the Dark Souls inspiration, the dude's helm reminds me a lot of Velstadt, the bell dude. I think the inspiration taken from that and the rest of the design mesh together really nicely

I like the smearing on the cigarette although might help to have the face animated a bit as well cause it looks a bit weird only having the cigarette move and the lips slightly but still pretty neat, the smoke effect is nice too

I like how all the colours melt together with each other, only slight problem is that the towers can be hard to "read" if that makes any sense

Still I feel it was a pretty successful experiment
